JDT Construction is a Christchurch-based building company owned and operated by Jack Thomson and his wife Laura.
Since establishing the business in 2014, they have built a reputation for delivering high-quality residential construction, renovations, and architectural projects throughout Canterbury and the wider South Island.
Born and raised in Christchurch, Jack began his building career at the age of 19 with a company specialising in extensive villa renovations. This early experience developed a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the complexities of restoring character homes. He later progressed into the construction of high-end architectural residences, working on a number of premium new builds throughout Christchurch’s hill suburbs and Banks Peninsula.
Following the Canterbury earthquakes, Jack spent several years delivering EQC and insurance repair projects across the region, gaining extensive experience managing a wide variety of residential rebuilds, structural repairs, and complex renovation work. This period further strengthened his practical knowledge of New Zealand building standards, seismic strengthening, and quality workmanship under demanding conditions.
Today, JDT Construction combines decades of hands-on building experience with a commitment to quality craftsmanship, clear communication, and personalised service. Whether delivering an architectural new home, a complex renovation, or a bespoke residential project, the team works closely with clients to ensure every build is completed to an exceptional standard.

We were engaged to construct a new pavilion that would serve as a versatile function room and wedding venue, creating a space that complements the character of the original homestead while providing a modern, purpose-built facility. Since its completion, the venue has become a popular destination for weddings, private functions, and events, proving to be a highly successful addition to the property.
