We were engaged to construct a new pavilion that would serve as a versatile function room and wedding venue, creating a space that complements the character of the original homestead while providing a modern, purpose-built facility. Since its completion, the venue has become a popular destination for weddings, private functions, and events, proving to be a highly successful addition to the property.

Ōhinetahi, renowned for its expansive 1.25 hectares of gardens, also features two art galleries, sculpture installations, and scenic woodland trails, all centered around a historic 19th-century homestead. Gifted to the nation in 2012, it is now managed by the Ōhinetahi Charitable Trust. This enchanting place is known for its serene atmosphere and timeless beauty.

The project presented a number of unique challenges. A key priority was ensuring the new building respected and reflected the historic architecture of the existing homestead, with careful attention paid to the proportions, materials, detailing, and overall aesthetic so the pavilion felt like a natural extension of the heritage setting.
Designed to maximise natural light, views, and year-round entertaining, the home seamlessly connects its interior living spaces with a generous covered outdoor deck. Featuring automated opening roof systems, integrated heating, a built-in fireplace, outdoor kitchen and BBQ, and frameless glass balustrades, the outdoor living area functions as a true extension of the home, providing a sheltered and comfortable space regardless of the season.
Throughout the interior, meticulous attention has been paid to craftsmanship and detailing. Bespoke timber joinery, feature cabinetry, premium finishes, and carefully selected materials create a warm, sophisticated atmosphere while maintaining a clean contemporary aesthetic. Large expanses of glazing frame the surrounding landscape, flooding the home with natural light and strengthening the connection between the indoor spaces and the hillside setting.
